Reflection

Step 1

  • Review the Benchmark Goals you set for yourself in Getting Started; What is it that you hope to know and/or be able to do at the conclusion of the course?

A.  Comment on your semester achievements in relation to your initial goals

I think I have made significant progress in my achievements in relation to my initial goals.

B.  How well did you achieve your goal?  What goals were met?  What goals were not met?

Most of my goals were pretty much met. I got in all my  college pre-work done and I made significant progress on guitar. However I think I'll always continue to meet and improve my goals over time.

C.  How well did you avoid sources of interference to stay on task?

I think I avoided them pretty well. If I found myself getting off task, I would quickly take a break and come back immediately to what I was working on.

Step 2

  • Provide a brief narrative regarding your private lessons with one of our adjunct staff members to include the following;

  1. Describe what your lessons looked like in general.

- My lessons on Mondays in Bennington usually consisted on sight reading, soloing, and proper technique. We would interchange these as needed. We would usually then after looking at the fundamentals, look to my audition pieces and other needs.

  1. In what ways did you find your mentor helpful?

I found my mentor helpful in answering questions I had no idea how to approach or learn about. He provided the resources and materials that wouldn't usually be available online and suited them to my needs.

  1. What were your three biggest take aways from your lessons?

- How to approach a piece when sight reading

- Using inversions to solo

- Finishing my audition pieces

Step 3

  • Use the following Rubric to guide your responses regarding your semester achievements

1.  Work Habits

A.  Identify areas of strength

- Being able to work by myself and work independently while getting work done.

B.  Identify areas of needed improvement

- I think I do have some trouble finishing and following through with some tasks that are challenging and hard to complete.

C.  What strategies might you use in the future to overcome these challenges?

 - I think its a matter of discipline and work ethic that will evolve and I'll continue to work on overtime.

Step 4

  • Briefly review the work you have submitted for the second half of the semester

A.  Comment on the quality of work reflected in your ePortfolio as well as the content of your manilla folder

- I think I was able to shape and mold my portfolio well due to being very familiar with jimdo and the format.

B.  Did you modify your approach for the second part of the semester or repeat your approach from the first part?

- I kept my approach pretty much the same for both of the semesters. However I did focus more on the college applications aspect of the second half of the semester.

Step 5

  • Answer the following questions regarding the future use of the course material

A.  Identify 3 of the most important concepts or skills you learned in this course

- Sight Reading

- Jazz improvisation

- How to practice correctly

B.  Explain why you perceive these concepts or skills to be important

- I think these concepts and skills are import because they are not only imperative to my college auditions, but have helped me progress in guitar after a while of a lack of growth.

C.  How do you anticipate using these concepts or skills in the future?

- I am definitely going to be using these skills while teaching and performing in front of people.

Step 6

  • Please provide some advice and words of wisdom for students taking this course in the future

- Make a plan for yourself and study how you practice by yourself.
