Step 3

Answer the following reflective questions:

  • Did you change your topic or focus during this project? If so, explain.

  • - I would say during the project I improved a significant amount in my sight reading.
  • Were you able to stretch yourself to learn more on the topic or did you find that you relied only on what you already knew on the topic?

  • I mostly relied on what I knew and what resources I had available to me for the project. These resources were mostly given to my by my guitar teacher. I plan to use more resources like Jamie Abersol in the future and others.
  • In what way have you grown and/or met your goals as a result of this project?

  • I have become a much more stronger and confident sight reader. Before the project I was reluctant to play any melodies in jazz band. Now I'm attempting to play and learn most of them.
  • Describe the resources/information on your topic that were most helpful to your understanding of the subject.

  • The thing that was most helpful was the Berklee Method book. This book, step by step, taught me the foundations of reading music on guitar and will continue to do so.
  • Comment on your ability to follow your sequential step-by-step plan and your time management in preparing for this project.

  • I feel that I did lack in some areas as far as my plan goes such as the ability to solo better but i continued to follow the path on sight reading my teacher gave me.
  • Did you change the presentation format you planned in the proposal or did it remain the same?

  • It remained the same as far as what I was planning and expecting to do besides the fact it changed last minute into sort of a bench mark.
  • Did your predicted elements of success from your proposal match the outcome of the project?

  • For the most part. However, I'm not completely done with this project as I am doing it in two parts. I still have a long ways to go.
  • What was the greatest benefit/most rewarding aspect of this project?

  • The greatest benefit was probably being able to read and understand music on guitar more clearly which is a problem I've been avoiding for a long time.
  • Describe specific challenges, disappointments or regrets related to the project process and/or product.

  • I think the most disappointing is the fact I've realized the full scope and extent of jazz soloing and how hard it is but this could also be put as something to look forward to learn.
  • If given the opportunity to re-do this project what aspects might you change?

  • I feel like I would focus more on the upper register of pieces and also work more on jazz soloing.
