Textures

  • Provide a brief summary explaining

  1. The definition of musical texture - Music texture is the most basic element of music. It essentially describes the amount of stuff that is happening at one moment. 

  2. The differences between types of musical textures - Monophonic: A single melody line, Homophonic: A melody line with a underlaying harmony, Polyphonic: Multipule melodies laid over each other, and Heterophonic: a melody but played in different variations

  3. Texture clues by sight - If represented as a line, Monophonic: A single line, Homophonic: A line with a shaded part underneath, Polyphonic: Multipule lines laid over each other, and Heterophonic: multipule lines but moving in the same direction  

  4. Texture clues by sound - Monophonic: Like whistling, Homophonic: Like a choral, usually soundng larger, Polyphonic: Almost chaotic but still sounds good, Heterophonic: Confusing and rare 

  • Would you describe the form of America The Beautiful as being binary or ternary?  Explain your answer.

  • I would describe it as Binary because it doesn't end with the first phrase
  • Would you describe the form of Swing Low Sweet Chariot as being binary or ternary?  Explain your answer.

  • I would describe it as ternary because it repeats the first phase 
  • Use the 3rd Movement Autumn from Vivaldi's Four Seasons to provide the Letter Code(ABCDE, etc.) that symbolizes the form
