Mind Dump:
Non harmonic tones are notes that do not exist in the chord. These tones are usually found in after or before two chords and appear in progressions.
Passing Tone- A passing tone is approached by a step and continues by a step
Neighbor tone- A neighbor tone is approached by a step and resolved down to previous note
Changing tone- A changing tone is a non harmonic tone composed of two notes, approached by a step and resolved by a leap
Suspension- Usually tied, a suspension keeps the note the same then steps downward
Escape Tone- An escape tone is approached by a step then resolves by a leap
Retardation- A retardation keeps the note the same then steps upward
After listening to my piece it definitely sounds more musical. with the non harmonic notes added in between the chords, the piece flows much better instead of it being square and linear.
